Himachal Pradesh Ladakh Motorcycle Safari

Himachal Pradesh Ladakh Motorcycle Safari is for those who are looking for motorcycle riding experience in the Himalayan and Trans Himalayan region. Therefore, we also call this tour Trans Himalayan Motorcycle Safari. Riding from the plains of north India, lush green hills of Shivalik range and arid landscape of greater and Trans Himalayan region where altitude ranging from 700 upto 18000 ft. plus is where this motorbike tour takes you.

You will be exploring some of the most beautiful locales of not just of North India but of the world. This motorcycle safari will take you the Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh region where most of the landscape is dominated by high altitude cold deserts dotted with imposing Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, where villages creeping up like little green oasis in a stark brown. Miles of rolling pastures, soaring snow-capped peaks and swollen rivers which turn into mere trickles in winter when everything gets frozen and mountain passes are some of the salient features of the tour. One gets to experience diverse cultures of India during the journey - in fact there is so much of difference between cultures, people, features and landscape from starting to the finishing point that one will realize the real meaning diversity India has.

Day 01 - Delhi

Arrive Delhi. Meet on arrival & transfer to the hotel.

Day 02 - Delhi           

Morning at leisure.  

Afternoon you will have an orientation session with you mount Enfield 500cc.

Overnight at hotel.

Day 03 – Delhi to Shimla

Today morning start a little early for Shimla (340 Km) to avoid city traffic & ride for Shimla.

Ride through the plains of north India slowly gaining altitude with lunch break at picturesque Parwanoo. Arrive Shimla and check in at hotel.   

Evening, walk around the mall. Lies on the lap of western Himalayas at an altitude of 6900 ft. amidst pine, deodar, oak and rhododendron forest the ‘Queen of Hills’, Shimla has been summer capital of India before independence and still is the capital of state of Himachal Pradesh. Walk around the mall in the evening.

Day 04 - Shimla to Sarahan

We will continue our safari riding towards Sarahan (185 Km). Arrive Sarahan and check in at hotel.

Erstwhile capital of Bushahar Empire, Sarahan is a picturesque little village amidst deodar forest at an altitude of around 7500ft. One see a fine example of Hindu and Buddhist architecture at historical Bhimakali temple here. The temple’s unusual architecture and wealth of wood carvings have made it a brilliant example of what is loosely called the Indo-Tibetan style. River Sutlej flows deep down in the valley and one can see snow-clad Shrikhand peak across.

Day 05 - Sarhan to Sangla

Morning, continue safari riding towards the secret world of Kinnaur and Spiti valley which defined by its scenic locals. Our journey through wooded hills, patches of farmland and charming villages will take us towards Wangtu and further to Karchham and ending our day at Sangla (92 Km) a charming village in Baspa valley. Riding narrow roads amidst the picturesque landscape will be mostly the order of the day. A small village in Indo-Tibetan border at an altitude of 8900ft. above sea level Sangla is known for its scenic landscape, historical Kamru Fort, Saffron Farms and Rainbow Trout and view of Kinner Kailash from here.

End the day at Sangla with overnight at tented accommodation.

Day 06 - Sangla to Kalpa

After a leisurely morning take a little back track Karchham and ride short distance further to Kalpa another charming destination in Himachal Pradesh (total riding distance today will be 57 Km). While one rides through a scenic landscape, view of Kinnaur Kailash is omnipresent all along. Kalpa is a beautiful serene village at an altitude of 9700ft. with panoramic view of Kinnaur Kailash in front. Landscape of the place is dominated by apple orchards, pine and deodar forest.

Day 07 – Kalpa to Tabo

Morning, continue riding towards the next destination Tabo (163 Km). Ride today will be a little challenging however very rewarding – ride is through winding road crossing rivers, valleys, terrace fields, serene hamlets certainly one of the most beautiful landscapes of Himachal Pradesh to reach Tabo.

Located on the bank of Spiti river at an altitude of 10700ft. in Spiti Valley in Tibetan plateau, fluttering prayer flags, dotted with thousand years monasteries with fascinating murals, mummies of Lamas seating still, meditating caves is what defines the existence of Tabo. Spiti Valley is famous for producing one of the best apples in the country.

Visit Tabo monastery upon arrival and explore the surroundings.

Day 08 - Tabo to Losar

Another very challenging but equally rewarding day of riding. Today we begin our journey from Tabo to Losar covering a distance of 171 km with couple for stopover en route to visit quaint villages and fascinating monasteries at very high elevations. Ride is along the Spiti river mostly with a Himalayan desert landscape.    

We will ride pass Kaza (12000ft.) the subdivisional head quarter which boasts of an old monastery, visit to Kibber Village (12000ft.) which has the distinction of being the highest motorable village in the world and Ki Gompa (12350ft.) the oldest and largest monastery in the region.

Day 09 – Losar to Jispa

Morning we will continue riding towards Jispa covering a distance of 174 km leaving the Sipiti valley and entering into Lahaul valley. The journey will take one through the first high altitude mountain pass Kunzum-la (15000ft.) that separates Spiti from Lahaul valley. Pass command spectacular view of surroundings. After riding for some time through winding road, we will take a 12 km detour to visit a high-altitude tranquil lake Chandra Tal which is located at an altitude of 14100ft.  

Arrive Jispa and check in at hotel with rest of the day at leisure.

Day 10 - Jispa to Sarchu

Our day will start with riding towards Sarchu (107 Km). Today we will crossover from Himalayan to Trans-Himalayan region of Zanskar through picturesque landscapes. The highlight of the ride today apart from a scenic landscape is crossing the 15900ft. mountain pass Baralacha-la.

End day at the campsite in Sarchu.

Day 11 - Sarchu to Leh

Today is going to be a long day we ride about 250 Km. from Sarchu to reach Leh. However, today is going to be one the most rewarding days of the journey.

Ride today will take one to the biggest settlement of the region, Leh a town in the middle of the barren rugged mountain terrain. Ride will be through highland plateau, series of hairpin bands at a row (Gata Loops), long stretch of Morey Plains, crystal clear streams and two of highest motorable passes in the world (Lachung-la 16600ft, and Tanglang-la 17500ft.).

Arrive Leh and check in at the hotel.

Day 12 – Leh

Day at leisure for motorcycle maintenance and optional activities. Leaving the motorbikes in able hand one can explore the Leh town.

Located at an altitude of 11500ft. Leh the capital of Ladakh is a fascinating place and lifeline of the region. An oasis in the middle of the mountain desert, it is the saddle of Buddhist culture it used to be important trade center of the Silk Route. Towering mountains reaching the sky dotted with Tibetan monasteries, rhythmic chants of Buddhist monks, sound of drums and symbols coming from these monasteries and smiling faces are how one can define Leh in few words.

Optional monastery tour or half day rafting at Zanskar river can be organised if desired.

Day 13 – Leh to Nubra Valley         

Start your ride in the morning ascending towards Kardung-la. Ride will be challenging however the reward is that you are getting to ride on one of the world’s highest motorable road. The view from the Kardung-la top (18300ft.) is amazing - one can see all the way south over the Indus valley to the seemingly endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range, and north to the giants of the Saser massif. After capturing the captivating moment continue riding to beautiful Nubra Valley. You will pass through breath-taking landscape with omnipresent view of the snow-capped mountains, rustic villages with quaint monasteries, vast spans of sandy area and sand dunes.  

After riding for almost 125km we will reach our campsite.

Day 14 - Nubra to Leh

Morning explore the sand dunes of Nubra’s mountain desert and enjoy two-humped camel (Bactrian or the Mongolian camel) ride.

Later in the morning take a back journey to Leh.

Day 15 – Leh to Pangong Lake

Today morning leave for Pangong Lake (225km). Ride through rugged terrain before ascending for Chang-la pass (17600ft.) one of the highest motorable pass in the world. The pass enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of the villages below.

End ride at campsite at Pangong Tso (Lake).

Pangong Lake is situated at 13900ft. above sea level. A long narrow endorheic basin which is 135 kilometres in length is hardly six to seven kilometres at its widest point. The highest salt water lake in the world, it is bisected by the international border between India and China.

Rest of the day indulge in the surreal landscape in the backdrop of the Lake. The landscape of the place is such that one rarely feels so close to the nature.

Day 16 - Pangong Lake to Leh

After a leisurely morning start riding to get back to Leh.

Day 17 - Leh to Delhi and Depart

In time transfer to airport to board the flight for Delhi. Arrive Delhi and take connecting flight for onward destination.
